My Pictures of Tourist Attractions and Other People's Art

The Elliott Museum

Julee and I had our first official date at  The Elliott Museum  in April 2011, just before they tore it down to construct a modern, climate controlled building. Her father was along (chaperone?) for that visit. He and my parents were along when we returned for our first visit to the new building.

Here is the gang with a sculpture out front:

The Elliott is famous for it's antique car collection, most of which is now behind glass with a giant soda machine style mechanical display system.

The behind glass part makes for fun photo opportunities:

And, of course, the mechanical display system makes for a fun animation opportunity (click on the image below to see the animation):

They do have some vehicles that are not behind glass (click on the image to see the full size picture):

They also have a nice baseball memorabilia display, including many autographs from all time greats:

And of course there is some art.

These are from the Jane Davis Doggett collection. I think it has moved on, but there may still be some items in the gift shop.

This sculpture is also from the Jane Davis Doggett collection. Her website also has mutliple views of this one. The image below links to my "walking tour" animation of the sculpture.

The sculpture also casts a cool shadow:

Now that they have the new building, the Elliot gets more travelling exhibits, so maybe we'll go back some day and add more here!

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum

The   on Sanibel is not exclusively about local shells, but they do make sure to point out what's great about Sanibel/Captiva:

As far as "art" goes, the Sailor's Valentines are hard to beat (click on the picture for the larger version):

The mirrored rotating display of record holders is also eye-catching (click on the picture for the larger version):

And they have many nice displays of local and international shells that are at least good for learning the names:

I like the pretty colors (I wish my camera was a bit steadier on that second shot, an excuse to go back?):

We visited the natural history museum during our January, 2014 trip to D.C.

If you want to see some art, you are in the right place.

If you'd like to see the clowny fun pics, like here on the right...--->>
Check out the  2014 Pictures page.

They had two really good photography exhibits that day, "underwater photography" and "nature's best photography."

Here are some of my photos of great underwater photos:

My photos all picked up some reflection
I think it's appropriate that the gator (croc?) that has reflection as part of the

Washington D.C. Monuments

These are from my 2012 trip for Sam's G.W. Law School gradution.

Joan, Carol, Matt and I took a side trip to the   National Mall and Memorial Parks.

This was some sort of fly by from afar. I only saw contrails, the planes were too far off. (click on the images below to see the full size pictures)

Those were taken from near the WWII Memorial, where the fountains make for nice photo ops: (click on the images below to see the full size pictures)

The Lincoln Memorial is photogenic from almost any angle (click on the images below to see the full size pictures)

The Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Reflecting Wall (click on the images below to see the full size pictures)

The Korean War Veteran's Memorial Statues and Reflecting Walls (click on the images below to see the full size pictures)

It turned out to be a nice hike, Martin Luther King to FDR to Thomas Jefferson Memorials.

And finally a couple more Washington Monument shots, the first on the way to and the second from within the Jefferson Memorial:

St. Louis Attractions
